We apply proactive recruiting to roles with small and hard-to-engage talent pools. Examples are a polymer scientist who knows LDPE (low-density polyethylene), a robotics engineer with a defined specialty, or a sales leader who understands how to sell data services to governments.

Brett views the recruitment process as holistic, starting with understanding the business objective. Once the strategy is developed, sourcing the right candidates is the activity, but what is the next driver? We all know that speaking with someone engaged in the conversation is enjoyable, and this is an area where he excels. He understands interviewing techniques but has a deep interest in career stories, and everyone loves talking to someone about their career.    

 

Brett was born in Cobourg, about an hour and a half drive east of Toronto. When he was younger, his grandparents owned a hotel, and his father was a regional manager with a corporate restaurant chain. When he was 13, his family opened a restaurant in Port Hope, and Brett began serving tables. After high school, he attended Queen’s and started in computer science. After university, he worked in competitive intelligence and executive search, and at one point, he opened a restaurant.
